Can you use shampoo as body wash?
You can shampoo as body wash in the short-term, but in the long-term you should use separate shampoo and body wash products to promote healthy skin.
…
We all have moments when we run out of body wash and think about using shampoo to suds up instead. In the short-term, that's okay because:
- Shampoo and body wash have similar cleansing ingredients so shampoo can act replace some of the foaming and cleaning qualities
However, it’s not recommended to replace body wash with shampoo as a long-term solution. Shampoo and body wash are formulated differently:
- Shampoo is designed to cleanse scalp of oils and dirt, so it contains a higher percentage of targeted cleansing ingredients (for example, EarthSuds shampoo uses Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate which is a naturally derived foaming agent from coconut oil)
- Shampoo is often more drying towards your body if used regularly over time, whereas body wash is formulated to be more mild and strip fewer oils from our skin
- Body wash includes more oils to nourish and moisturize your skin, for example, EarthSuds body wash uses ingredients such as Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Grapeseed Oil
- Body wash has a higher pH than shampoo since it is closer to the natural pH of our skin barrier (around pH 5.5), whereas shampoo has more neutral pH
